Aluminothermic WeldingConsumables
Materials consumed in the performance of a weld,shall consist of:
a. Welding powder – A prepared package containingthe correct quantity of aluminothermic powder for the type of weldto be made.
b. Moulds – Preformed refractory receptacles thatare placed around the rail at the gap to be welded and whichreceive the molten metal form the crucible.
c. Single-use Crucible – Pail-shaped refractoryfor containing the weld powder during ignition, reaction andpour.
d. Igniter – Match like device, used to ignitethe weld powder and initiate the aluminothermicreaction.
e. Luting Sand – Refractory material used to sealthe mould components around the rail.
